President's day, Genevieve and I decided to hike Mt Tom, however it was very warm when we started out (in the 50's) and had been raining, however there was still at least 2 feet of snow on the ground, so the stream that the path crosses was suddenly a river of slush (see images just below the car). We decided to bushwhack up the river for a way (we knew the path stayed close to the river) and look for a place to cross upstream.
Notice the blue tubes, those are sleds... for the way down.
waterproof pants and a fashion statement.
sucessful crossing of the river of slush! However when I followed my leg went into the river too far and water went over my gaitors and into one of my boots (wet feet = bad!). I borrowed one of Genevieve's extra socks (cause I left mine in the car by accident) and we continued on.
We realized that the path crossed the river again, I really thought there was a bridge at the second crossing, but I must have been thinking of another hike, luckily this time we found a good crossing point near the path and didn't have to bushwhack much. We lost so much time bushwhacking that we didn't have time to summit Mt Tom, realizing this we decided to summit Mt Avalon instead (which was actually the first hike I went on with the hiking group and the first time I met Genevieve).
Sledding down the mountain... I was resistant at first, but it was a lot of fun
