We stopped for lunch in a town on the southern edge of the Dolomites, the town was almost completely closed for the season, apparently it is big in ski season and big in summer, but closes for a few weeks in May. Our mission was to hike the trails in the mountains, many of which weren't hikable yet because of the remaining snow. We figured that if we were going to hike in the Dolomites we wanted to do it right, so we decided to skip it on this trip, return another time, and instead continue on to Salzburg, Austria.
